Design Thinking for Creative Expression

TEACHING ARTIST: Luz Helena Thompson
8 sessions >> Wednesdays, 2/7-3/27 from 2–4pm

Online

Design Thinking is a design methodology that provides a solution-based approach to solving problems. One of the most common problems when working with art is how we view and define what an "artist" is. We are all artists in our own ways and this class will give you the tools necessary to begin unlocking the barriers between you and your creativity. No prior art experience is required. This class is perfect for the newcomer to artistic and creative expression as well as those who have experience in artistic work and design. Previous students will have the opportunity to design a new individual project and further develop their artistic skills and abilities.

Challenge yourself to experience an “OUT OF THE BOX” thinking approach to discovering the artist within!

FROM THE BLANK PAGE TO PUBLISHING: STORY + MEMOIR WRITING

TEACHING ARTIST: SCOTT DRISCOLL AND JENNIFER MCCORD
8 SESSIONS >> WEDNESDAYS, 2/7-3/27 FROM 3-5PM

ONLINE

We will start this eight-week course by looking at how to use memories and real-life events to do the world building necessary for creating stories or memoirs. Next, we’ll take a look at how to build characters from life, first as they show up in scenes. Then we’ll look into their interior worlds, into the subtext that helps explain their choices. Finally, we’ll look at publishing in today’s world.

We’ll start with how to summarize a story in a premise and how to create an author bio. Then we’ll discuss choices in publishing and how to approach traditional publishers and how to self-publish.

This class is open to both Veterans and non-Veterans.

Mandala Art Lit

Teaching Artist: Asha Singh
MATERIALS MAILED TO PARTICIPANTS

In this art kit, we create co-centric abstract design called Mandala with an array of symbols, shapes and forms. We will start by practicing different patterns, shapes and create mandala designs from scratch. This process is extremely satisfying, meditative and therapeutic in nature. Once we learn the basics, we can create our very own design embracing the benefits of mandala drawing. (Beginner friendly!)
