The opening reception for the Pride at Path with Art exhibit will coincide with the Third Thursday Uptown Art Walk on Thursday, May 16, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Join us for our first ever Pride at Path with Art exhibition to celebrate the work of our LGBTQIA+ artists. In 2023, 30% of the Path with Art participant population identified as LGBTQIA+ and our new LGBTQIA+ Open Studio was started as a space for participants to create community through art. Featuring artwork made both by artists in the community and during our LGBTQIA+ Open Studio, this exhibition showcases what Pride, identity, community and queer joy means through art.
Pride month was established in response to the 1969 Stonewall riots in Manhattan, and was a catalyst for the LGBTQIA+ rights movement. The community has made great strides in the fight for same-sex marriage and transgender rights, but still continues to face threats of losing their rights to this day. In a society that increasingly seeks to ostracize the LGBTQIA+ communities, we are striving to foster a strong community through art and the celebration of pride, identity, and the history of the movement that has brought us here today. This exhibition highlights the strength, love, and resiliency of the LGBTQIA+ communities through the empowering nature of art as a healing and community building medium.
The exhibition will remain in the gallery through June 28, 2024. View online here.
Thank you to these funders listed and our vast community of donors who all help support our work, believing that art can bring healing.
