In this percussive and drumming class we will decode the beautiful and complex rhythms of Brazilian music. From samba, maracatú, to baião, and others. We will explore the roles of the surdo, the large bass drum that is the heartbeat, and the sharp attack of the tiny tamborím––even the pandeiro––a whole drum kit in one drum. Through hands-on practice with provided instruments we will explore music every session and practice for a final class performance. My hope is that you grow to love Brazilian music as much as I do and really feel the beat.
