Path with Art Singers

If you love to sing or have always wanted to sing, this is the group for you! We will focus on learning fundamental music skills and knowledge as well as singing and vocal technique. We will apply what we learn by using the voice as our musical instrument while learning songs and singing as a group. Come sing with us! All experience levels welcome.

Together we will be making a collaborative costume for Path with Art's fall fundraiser, the Art for All Ball. Using natural forms and materials as our guide, we may weave grasses, glue beans, stamp flowers, or layer rice paper to create a unique and beautiful look. Nature will inspire our design and we will have fun experimenting in a supportive environment with hands-on demonstrations. Join us! No prior experience necessary.

A-Song-A-Week

In this class, we will cover the techniques of image transfer. Image transfer allows artists to collage and utilize photographic images in their prints. We will start with the basics of image transfer, and then experiment by combining image transfers with other techniques, such as stenciling, rainbow roll, and monotype ( painting on the plate). This class is available to students that have previous printmaking experience or took Introduction to Monoprinting in 2022.

Lines on a Spine: Poems by the Book

Join Teaching Artist Gavin Reub and your fellow participants in learning techniques for Podcasting. In this online class you will take the wheel in creating your own content, by engaging with more audio editing, recording, creating, and engineering - all from the comfort of your home, using tools free and accessible to you. Work with your fellow artists to create unique collaborations, or solo podcasts of your own creation! Windows or Mac computer access for this class is highly recommended in order to fully participate. If you have any technology questions, please reach out to program@pathwithart.org

Both beginner and seasoned podcasters welcome! This class is open to an equal number of civilian and veteran participants.

Shakespeare’s Big Ideas

Together we will be making a collaborative costume for Path with Art's fall fundraiser, the Art for All Ball. This class will focus on movement as a theme. Think fringe, layers of colored fabrics, and waves of texture all inspired by movement. In class we will make elements of a garment that will dazzle on the runway. No prior sewing experience needed.

Haiku Writing

In this course, with Outer Space as a theme we will explore techniques and gain experience with tools used in modern electronic music production. Working with a variety of synthesizers, drum machines and effects processors, you will gain an understanding of basic sound design, composition and technique, with an emphasis on collaborative improvisation and self-expression. We will have the opportunity to compose, record, and perform our compositions and will finish the class with a broad understanding of modern techniques for sound design, beatmaking and arranging. No experience with music gear is required for the course and all equipment will be provided.

Using watercolor as an artistic medium can be a part of a mindfulness journey and ideal for all levels. This course will cover a range of topics such as; Improving creativity, reducing anxiety and increasing artistic confidence. You’ll learn the basics of watercolor painting and use those skills to practice mindfulness. Weekly offerings include; short lessons followed by painting exercises aimed at increasing joy and reducing stress. Self-care practices, outdoor painting, guided meditation and journaling will also be explored throughout this course.

Oh come all ye fabulous to bend norms and play with gender through the art of drag performance. We'll cover the queer history of drag queens/kings/gender-nonconforming royalty, character and act development, DIY costuming, stage makeup, lipsyncing, and more! This whimsical class is open to all, regardless of gender or orientation, and will culminate in a spectacular drag showcase.

Let’s dive into poetry! Together we will use the tool of writing as a form of personal development––from gratitude to letting things go, to talking about hopes, fears, legacy, healing, and more. We will focus on various forms of poetry from odes to figurative language, as well as literary devices that are universal to use in any form of writing (such as similes, metaphors, hyperboles). This is an interactive class – with time for writing, sharing, as well as giving and receiving feedback. This is a great introduction to writing poetry for writers of all levels. Participants are recommended to have a paper and pencil available for each class session.

In this class we will use letters & correspondences as inspiration for writing our own poetry. We will be exploring the correspondences of authors like Rainer Maria Rilke, Akwaeke Emezi, & James Baldwin. In this exploration we will engage with poetry prompts inspired by these texts. We will also be writing letters of our own. Lastly, we will consider the form of the letter itself, reflecting on the ways that we do the work of writing casually, as well as between our friends & intimates.

*Please note this is an hour long class that will be jam-packed with lots of exciting prompts, ideas, with suggested writing time both inside and outside of class.


Acrylic Painting: Narrative Urban Landscapes

Together we will be making a collaborative costume for Path with Art's fall fundraiser, the Art for All Ball. This class will focus on color as we make our outfit for the community model! We will also be reusing materials to divert them from the landfill. We may use fabric or deconstruct some objects like handbags or shoes to make a garment. Then, we will use discarded housepaint on fabric to bring even more color into the look. No prior sewing experience needed, just a willingness to experiment and have fun.

You can take this class in addition to another 8-week class.


Participants can take multiple workshops in addition to class(es), pending available space.
All workshops this Summer are a special part of programming.

Jam Sessions

Our Community Jam Sessions are back! Participant Artists and musician volunteers gather and play music together informally and unrehearsed. These three-hour jam sessions drop-in format, no commitment required. Attendees are invited to bring their own instruments if they have one, but we also have instruments available including microphones, guitars, a bass, synthesizers, drums and other percussion, a keyboard and more. Participants are also welcome to enjoy the event as audience and community members, cheering on the musicians.

 

 

Ambassador-Led Workshop: Acrylic Painting Portraiture

In this two-day workshop, you will learn about different types of portraits and painting styles. From there, we will discuss paint mixing and palettes before we create our own portraits of ourselves or another person or animal. Participants may use their own pictures, magazine pictures, or a mirror. We will aim to be expressive to bring out the personality of our subjects.

Scrape Painting Art Kit

Create your own abstract wall art! This D.I.Y. set includes all the tools you will need to explore the whimsical art of scrape painting. Squeeze a few drops of paint onto your canvas and use the paint scraper tool to experiment with your colorful creation Play around with shapes, unique lines, waves and more! Once the paint dries, finish off your project with a pop of gold foil.


Paper Flower Bouquet Art Kit

In this art kit you will create flowers out of common materials that will last forever. With step by step instructions you will decorate and paint coffee filters that will become flower petals and affix to a stem. You will have enough materials to make about 4–6 flowers.
