Self Portrait Painting in a Magical Landscape

TEACHING ARTIST: Pamm Hanson
8 sessions >> Tuesdays, 7/30-9/17 from 3-5pm

ArtHome | 200 Mercer St, Seattle, WA 98109

In this painting class you will complete an expressive self-portrait in an imagined or magical landscape using acrylic on canvas. Slides, in-class demonstrations, and critique with fellow classmates will inform artistic choices. We will consider the role of color, texture, abstraction, humor, and drama as elements to engage with in our paintings. Portraits will not necessarily be a realistic representation of yourself but rather a visual expression of who you are.

This class is best suited for participants with prior experience painting with acrylics and those that feel comfortable mixing colors using a limited palette.

This workshop involves careful observation, a time to slow down and concentrate on the still life (connecting with a piece of art history), and opportunity to have fun in the process.

Finding Yourself in Music

TEACHING ARTIST: Stuart Zobel
2 sessions >> Fridays, 9/13 + 9/20 from 1-3pm PDT

ONLINE

What do Jimi Hendrix, Charles Bukowski, Joni Mitchell, Shakespeare, Miles Davis, Van Gogh, Bach, and Beethoven have in common? A strong personal voice. We all have things that make us unique, the way we pronounce certain words,  the length of pauses between certain words when we speak - millions of little 'fingerprints' that make us who we are. This workshop will dive into the world of music and help us identify what it is about certain genres or styles that draws us in and keeps us listening. Through lectures and listening, we will continue to develop our own personal voice and taste preferences in our life-long music appreciation journey.

Art Kits are mailed or distributed directly to participants and include all materials needed to complete a project as well as a step-by-step guidebook. Teaching Artists design these professional kits each quarter. Supplies are limited and prioritized for first-time and online-only participants.
